This week we were elated to hear the news that our good friends at Shimano received the 2020 Vimeo Best of the Year Award in the category of Brand Story: Large Business! They were up against some very big contenders such as Microsoft and Etsy for “exceptional use of video across an entire brand”. We’ve worked with Shimano for almost 20 years and it’s been great to share the experiences of travel, storytelling, and in turn, helping to grow the sport of cycling.

In celebration, we put together a quick summary of some of the films that Shimano released in 2020, many of them produced by the team here at Anthill. We are super proud to be part of the great team of content creators who Shimano has worked with over the years and we’re excited about the new projects we’re working on in 2021!

Jackson Goldstone in Squamish while filming his episode of This is Home

“The Jackson This is Home shoot was our first during the impact of Covid-19. The shoot started in September, 2019 but Jackson suffered a collarbone injury which pushed it into the start of spring, 2020. We were lucky enough to be able to shoot in our hometown of Squamish while we were adjusting to the constantly-changing rules to production. We installed plexiglass dividers in our work truck so our team could work as efficiently as possible.”

Vaea Verbeeck in action while filming Make Your Mark: Still Growing

“Filming with the Anthill crew on our Make Your Mark project was amazing. They keep it real, keep things fun and make it feel like it's just another day spent in beautiful places in good company. That fun energy was needed on early morning shoots. I remember we had to e-bike commute to a shoot location before sunrise. The temperature must have been way below freezing. They towed me up and pinned it on fire roads, eyes all watery, my fingers almost falling off my handlebars they got so cold! Spirits were always high though and I have Anthill to thank for that. It’s awesome to see Shimano commissioning so many great projects from film studios like Anthill and receiving recognition for it.”
